He received the Hetman Award from the Alberta Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in 2011 and the Michael Luchkovich Award by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in 2013. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ed Stelmach organized one of the first planes filled with humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
