St. Vladimir’s Sadochok – Calgary

Sadochok is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization governed by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada Calgary (Olga Basarab) branch.

What is the age group

We are Calgary’s only Ukrainian bilingual pre-school operating for children ages 3 to 5 years and Before and After School Care.

Our programs

Our program is open to all children who may already speak Ukrainian or have no experience with the language. Our program includes circle time, singing, physical activity, storytelling, cultural opportunities, learning centres, free play, snack time and much more

School fees

The registration begins in February. Students may enroll during the year. Our hours are 7:30am-5:30pm.

The enrollment fee is based on the number of days attending. It varies between $197 (half day 2 days per week) to $987 (full day 5 days per week).

We also offer Before School Care from 7:30am-8am (for an additional $100/month) and After School Care from 5pm-5:30pm (for an additional $100/month).

What we offer

Children visit St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Congregation and Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Calgary Collection, to learn about religious holidays and aspects of pioneer Ukrainian Canadian life. Ukrainian songs and traditions including kolachi baking, pysanky writing (decorating Easter Eggs), and preparing Easter baskets, are an integral part of the preschool program.

Cultural Exposure

We enjoy field trips to Butterfield Acres in the fall for a “harbooze” (pumpkin) hunt and invite special guests to our facility to stimulate curiosity, and exploration.

Ukrainian Language

Children learn through traditional and current Ukrainian songs and dance. The alphabet and phrases are taught in Ukrainian. Children showcase their language skills 3 times a year: the St. Nicholas Concert in December, family fun night in May (aka the perogy party), and at the year-end concert in June.

Incredible Facility

We have a great facility that includes: Full-sized indoor gymnasium,2 classrooms for circle time, crafts and sharing, a kitchen for preparing crafts, separate nap room, private outdoor playground and garden.
