Accommodations

Accommodations should be arranged before you arrive in Alberta!

What kind of accommodations are available:

  1. To host a family  e-mail housing@ukrainiansinalberta.ca to find a host family  e-mail  info@ukrainiansinalberta.ca
  2.  Before finding a host, rental accommodations or other living arrangements, review our safety tips here.

If renting an apartment before arriving in Canada, ONLY rent from a licensed rental agency. Do not rent an apartment from a private landlord without seeing it in person. Never provide payment before seeing the suite in person. Most rental agreements require you to pay the first month and security deposit (one month’s rent) in advance, you must ensure you have enough funds.

We strongly encourage you to consult an English-speaking friend, family member, or volunteer when signing a lease to ensure you clearly understand the terms and conditions.

Some rental companies are offering free rent for a select number of months, you must ensure you can afford the monthly rate when it comes time to pay it.

Rental companies are not obliged to provide rental incentives, or material support. Rental companies will evaluate each application on a case-by-case basis and respond accordingly. It is important to note that just because you apply to live in a rental unit, it does not mean your application will be approved. Landlords have the right to refuse tenancy for undisclosed reasons.

It is your responsibility to abide by the terms of your lease as laid out by the  landlord, such as registering with utility and internet providers, acquiring tenant’s insurance, and paying your rent on time. Violating the terms of a lease can have serious financial repercussions and you may have trouble leasing from other rental agencies in the future.

Know your rights, find information for tenants here.

Rent from a private individual

Many individuals have private rental accommodations (suites or rooms) in their homes. Do not rent from a private individual without meeting them and seeing the space in person.

We recommend taking an English speaking friend or family member with you to view any rental properties.

All precautions and disclaimers for renting with a rental agency apply when renting from a private landlord. Be sure you understand the terms and conditions of your lease. Be sure you understand the terms and conditions of your lease. Private landlords can be less forgiving if you violate the terms of your lease.

In most instances, the move-in date is the 1st of the month, unless other arrangements can be made.

Book a Hotel

As a last resort, and only if you can afford it, you can book a hotel on a day-to-day basis until you settle in.

Hotels cost on average $100-$150 per night. Ви можете знайти інші готелі Альберти на Travel Alberta.

Ensure you calculate the cost of your hotel stay PLUS accommodation rental. Most rental agreements start on the 1st of the month, and require the first month’s rent and security deposit (equal to one month’s rent).
