Ukrainian Day 2015 Media Release

Date

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress-Alberta Provincial Council (UCC-APC), partnering with the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, invites the public to attend the annual Ukrainian Day 2015 at the Ukrainian Village on Sunday August 9, to celebrate all things Ukrainian. This year we are acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of our Ukrainian pioneers and their legacies and traditions. We are also proud to mention that 2015 marks the 124th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada, as we prepare for the 125th anniversary in 2016.

This event, which draws over 5,000 visitors annually, will commence at 9:00 AM, and end at 5:00 PM. A concert showcase is the main spectacle of the day, featuring artists from East-Central Alberta, across Canada, and Ukraine.

Other activities at the event include the pioneer recognition monument unveilings and certificate ceremonies as well as the presentation of the Michael Luchkovich award, granted to former parliamentarians of Ukrainian descent for their significant contribution and dedication to the betterment of all Canadians. Former MLA Ray Danyluk will be the recipient of this year’s Michael Luchkovich Award.

Children’s activities include a youth soccer tournament and a children’s craft station. There will also be the Ukrainian Village Food Festival, as well as Ukrainian foods served at the “Summer Kitchen”.

Admission rates are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 65+), $7.50 for youth (age 7-17), and free for veterans and military personnel, Friends of the Ukrainian Heritage Village membership holders, and children ages six or under.  There is a special $35 admission rate for families.  Tickets can be purchased at the Village’s entrance on the day of the event.  For more information on Ukrainian Day 2015, please visit https://www.archive.uccab.ca/ukrainian-day
