This event honours the remarkable efforts of Firefighter Aid Ukraine (FFAU)\, an Edmonton-based NGO dedicated to equipping and training Ukrainian first responders and supporting healthcare providers. Since 2014\, FFAU has delivered over 410 tonnes of humanitarian aid and provided life-saving training to Ukrainian rescue teams. The evening will include a presentation on FFAU’s extraordinary work and a photography exhibition\, Unbreakable Ukraine. Admission is free. DESCRIPTION:Ukrainian Resettlement in Edmonton Jennifer Long\, PhD\, and Sofiia Budianska explored how Ukrainian Canadians supported newcomers to Edmonton and examined their experiences since March 2022. Findings highlight the crucial role Ukrainian-Edmontonians played in bridging settlement service gaps. \nImpact of Temporary Status on Ukrainian Youth in Canada under the CUAET Program Dr. Jeff Stepnisky\, Dr. Elizabeth Burgess-Pinto\, and Dr. Oksana Tashkinova\, with Dalhousie University’s Resilience Research Centre\, are studying the impact of temporary status on Ukrainian youth under the CUAET program. The research examines temporary visa policies\, stakeholder roles\, and service coordination. \nMothering in Exile Dr. Elizabeth Burgess-Pinto\, Dr. Olabisi Oyalema\, Larysa Hayduk\, and artist Slinko explore the challenges faced by displaced Ukrainian mothers in Canada under temporary visas. DESCRIPTION:A talk presented by a visiting scholar to MacEwan University from Ukraine\, Dr. Olha Poliukhovych. \nOlha Poliukhovych\, PhD\, literary critic & scholar\, is Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs and an associate professor at the Volodymyr Morenets Department of Literature of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Dr Poliukhovych is a co-founder and a board member of the Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal. In 2017–2018 she was a Fulbright Fellow at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University. In 2020 she became a co-founder of NGO New Ukrainian Academic Community (Kyiv). Since the full-scale Russia-Ukraine war\, she has been featured on LitHub podcasts and has published essays in Agni\, Consequence forum\, and Prospect Magazine. These diplomas will never be issued\, as the students expected to get them died in the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. These students will never became graduates. \nThey sacrificed their education\, life goals\, aspirations and dreams for the sake of their country. We are creating this exhibition to remind about the ongoing war and the price Ukraine\, as a nation\, is paying daily. \nThrough the Unissued Diplomas\, the exhibition will uncover the stories of 20 Ukrainian students killed in the war.
