SUMMARY:Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir of Edmonton presents Among Women
DESCRIPTION: Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir of Edmonton presents Among Women\, a choral concert celebrating women in music. The program will highlight women as composers\, poets\, and inspirations\, and feature works by Ukrainian female composers\, contemporary Canadian and American composers\, alongside Beethoven and even Billy Joel. \nStefania Turkewich is regarded as Ukraine’s first female composer. Kappella Kyrie will perform three movements from what is most likely her first composition\, a Divine Liturgy\, written in 1919. The concert will also include works by Victoria Vita Poleva\, Ola Gjeilo\, Peter Togni and Arvo Pärt. \nKappella Kyrie will be joined by Elegance Strings\, a string quartet\, whose members were forced to flee Ukraine due to Russia’s full-scale invasion. \nThis Mother’s Day weekend concert will honour and celebrate women through sacred and secular music that is both reflective and uplifting.

DESCRIPTION:Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir is pleased to present their spring concert\, Blending of Sounds. \nConducted by Dr. Melanie Turgeon\, Blending of Sounds will feature world-renowned soloists Kateryna Khartova\, Yurii Hryhorash\, and Russell Braun alongside a large orchestra for a moving and uplifting journey through the world of classical and Ukrainian choral music. Hear the ethereal beauty of the unaccompanied human voice with a diverse set of a cappella music by Benedict Sheehan\, Ola Gjeilo\, Ukrainian composers (including two world premieres)\, and more. \nThe concert’s second half features the majestic power of a 100+ mass choir and 58-piece orchestra for the world premiere of living Ukrainian composer Myroslav Volynsky’s cantata Господні терези (Divine Scales). Choristers from Ariose\, Axios Men’s Ensemble\, Ukrainian Dnipro Ensemble of Edmonton and Verkhovyna Ukrainian Choir will join Kappella Kyrie for this powerful performance.

DESCRIPTION:In celebration of their first recording\, Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir is thrilled to present Alleluia CD Release Concert. \nThe concert and recording includes highlights Kappella Kyrie has worked on for the past few years\, plus new works from their current season. Audiences will hear everything from Artem Vedel’s Нині отпущаєш (Song of Symeon) to an arrangement of Dolly Parton’s Light of a Clear Blue Morning. \nThe evening features the premiere of Воскресіння (The Resurrection) by Edmonton composer\, Diana Tayler\, commissioned by Kappella Kyrie. The work is set to a poem by the award-winning Ukrainian poet\, publisher\, visual artist and political activist Marjana Savka and is about the optimistic spirit of so many Ukrainians fighting for their country.
