DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to a special evening for Axios Men’s Ensemble and the Tenors & Basses of Pro Coro Canada. Following their recent JUNO Award win for Classical Album of the Year (Large Ensemble)\, over 40 male voices will come together to celebrate this prestigious milestone\, and to launch their next project. “A Night to Celebrate — From a National Stage to What Comes Next” takes place 7-10pm on May 21\, 2026 at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex in Edmonton (9615-153 Avenue).\nThe JUNO is a rare and significant achievement for a community-based choir—made possible by the dedication of its members\, supporters\, and community. This special evening also marks the official launch of a national tour of Benedict Sheehan’s Ukrainian War Requiem\, a powerful and deeply moving work reflecting on loss\, resilience\, and hope. Funds raised at the event will help to bring this award-winning music to audiences across Canada.\nThis warm and celebratory evening with the Axios community will include highlights from their JUNO-winning journey\, a special excerpt performance by Axios Men’s Ensemble and the Tenors & Basses of Pro Coro Canada\, a silent auction and interactive fundraising activities\, and a cocktail-style reception with food and bar service.

SUMMARY:The world premiere of Ukrainian War Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Edmonton – Axios Men’s Ensemble is honoured to present the world premiere of Ukrainian War Requiem by two-time Grammy nominee Benedict Sheehan\, April 14 at 3 pm\, at St. Basil’s Church (7007 109 street). \nFollowing the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022\, the Axios Men’s Ensemble commissioned composer and two-time Grammy Award nominee\, Benedict Sheehan\, to compose a Requiem to honour the countless victims who have lost their lives in this tragic war. The concert will feature Axios Men’s Ensemble\, Pro Coro Canada\, soloists from across North America and Ukraine and will be conducted by Michael Zaugg. \nTwo-time GRAMMY® nominee and American Prize-winner Benedict Sheehan has been called “a choral conductor and composer to watch in the 21st century” (ConcertoNet) and “a remarkable musician”. Sheehan’s music has been performed by many of today’s leading choral ensembles\, including a 2022 collaboration with Austin’s GRAMMY® Award-winning Conspirare on a setting of the African-American manifesto Credo by W.E.B. DuBois\, and the UK premiere of A Christmas Carol by the BBC Singers at the Barbican in London.
