DESCRIPTION:Come visit the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and experience the rich traditions of Iordan and the Ukrainian Christmas season as they are brought to life. Attend a water blessing ceremony at an ice cross\, explore a number of historical buildings\, participate in horse drawn sleigh rides\, blessing of homes\, and more. The Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society will be opening our gift-shop from 11am-2pm. Our food services will also be open from 11am-2pm\, where we will offer delicious pyrogy\, cabbage rolls\, and kubasa. Step into Alberta Avenue District for the Deep Freeze enchanted forest\, where looms a mystical creature\, vivid blooms\, bright-hued mushrooms\, and woodland animals—all hand sculpted by our world-renowned ice\, balloon\, and lantern artists. \nDeep Freeze Festival is proud to continue celebrating Ukrainian\, French Canadian\, Franco African\, Indigenous (Métis\, Inuit\, Cree)\, Latin American and Asian cultures\, which are all deeply woven into the fabric of Alberta Avenue District. As you wander through our enchanted forest\, discover artistic creations\, a homestead village\, and musical celebrations that warm your heart and palette with music\, art\, and tasty delights. Take a trek through Pipon Village by trying on a pair of snow shoes\, and sit around an open fire for bannock\, tea\, and cultural teachings. When you’re ready for a break from the great outdoors\, follow the jovial sounds of a Ukrainian dance troupe to our Hearth Stage in the Alberta Avenue Community League. \nCome celebrate the Olde New Year with light installations\, ice sculptures\, cultural stories\, street hockey and our famous annual Deep Freezer races and other winter artistic panache. \nThis winter experience is only possible because of our hard-working team of staff and volunteers giving countless hours to our community and the continued support of the community and local businesses.
