DESCRIPTION:April 17 – May 31\, 2025 \nOpening Reception\nThursday April 17\, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. with presentation at 7:00 p.m. \nACUA\, in collaboration with the Kule Folklore Centre at the University of Alberta\, is celebrating the folklore and folk tales of communities past. \nFolk tales reflect the Ukrainian spirit\, including the hopes\, dreams\, and wisdom of its people. As we read these tales there is a wonder as to what life held for individuals in the past. The lessons within the stories have been nurturing minds\, teaching values and history\, and providing endless entertainment for years. \nCommon plot lines include:\n• Perseverance in the face of adversity\n• Celebrating what we have\n• The small and the weak can help the big and the strong\n• Respect for freedom and the natural world\n• Conflicts resolved through kindness\, courage\, and wit \nDuring times of foreign occupation\, folklore was one of the few means of cultural expression as it allowed authors\, artists\, and scholars to encourage national pride. DESCRIPTION:The 30th Annual Kyiv Konnection Banquet is here\, and you don’t want to miss it!\nOur keynote speaker this year is Roman Waschuk\, who will be presenting on “Ukraine: Lessons in Societal and Economic Resilience from a Country at War”.\nA seasoned Canadian diplomat and former Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine\, international policy expert\, and Ukraine’s Business Ombudsman – Waschuk has spent decades at the frontlines of diplomacy and resilience. His insights on societal and economic survival in wartime Ukraine are more relevant than ever. He played a pivotal role in strengthening Canada-Ukraine relations\, supporting democratic reforms\, and expanding Canadian assistance programs during one of Ukraine’s most turbulent times.
