Democracy Celebration
February 6, 2005

On Feb. 6, 2005 at St. John's Cultural Centre in Edmonton, Volunteers, Donors, and Participants in the Election Observers in Ukraine Project were honoured and given an update as to the accomplishments and results of the project. Pictured here are 18 of the 28 UCC-APC sponsored election Observers for the re-run of the second round of elections on Dec. 26.

Andrew Hladyshevsky, Vice-President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (National), presents Mr. Krishan Joshee, Chairman of the Wild Rose Foundation, with a glass sculpture. The Wild Rose Foundation provided $125,000 to the Observers Project through an International Development Program grant.

All levels of government were on hand as Councillor Janice Melnychuk, Minister Gene Zwozdesky, and Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan listen to reports from Observers of their experiences in Ukraine.

Mr. Peter Goldring, MP for Edmonton East, was also on hand. Mr. Goldring served in Ukraine as an election Observer during the first and second rounds.

Oriana Masiuk shows her copy of the Certificate all Donors, Volunteers, and Participants received from UCC. The UCC-APC thanks everyone for helping make this project successful.
